Romain Grosjean is counting his lucky stars. After a gigantic crash on the opening of Bahrain GP, fire engulfed his car. He was in the burning car for a total of 28 seconds. Any more than that could have been catastrophic for the Frenchman. Thankfully, together with the help of track marshals and firefighters, he got out of the car in time. Without them, who knows if he would be alive today or not?

The Haas driver posted the video of his escape on his Instagram handle, “This video is incredible.”
Romain began by acknowledging the efforts of the firefighter who was extinguishing the fire. Official F1 medic, Ian Roberts, who pulled him out of the fire. He was in awe.
“Look at the professionalism of the fireman, trying to keep the fire away from me in the car. Look at the action on Ian Roberts and his involvement. I told him he was a hero; he went into the fire as much as he could to save me. I felt Ian’s hands pulling me over the barrier and knew I was safe.”

He will remain eternally grateful to be alive today, “I remember every second of it and life will never be the same again, but I’m sure for the best. I met with death and that is the worst feeling I ever had. But I’m alive and will enjoy every second of life and every small win in a much better way from now on.”
What next for Romain and Haas?
Grosjean is recovering at the moment, and won’t be taking any part at Sakhir GP in Bahrain. Reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi will be his replacement. However, he wants to return in time for the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP.
Team Principal has Guenther Steiner has previously said that Romain wants to return to the wheel of the car. The Frenchman is working hard on his recovery at the moment. Hopefully, all will go well and he can potentially bid adieu to the sport in a respectable manner.
