Mattia Binotto Blames Ferrari’s Unstable Management For Sebastian Vettel Failing to Emulate Michael Schumacher

After five years, Sebastian Vettel will no longer don the Ferrari overalls. When he first entered the sport, his talent was noticed straight away, and he even earned the nickname, ‘Baby Schumi’. Obviously, many viewed him as the next Michael Schumacher, and his 4 titles showed that he was on his way.

Those voices grew louder when he joined Scuderia Ferrari in 2015. The German driver was definitely following in the maestro’s footsteps in a literal sense. Unfortunately, the Ferrari move did not quite work out for Vettel, and he has now spent five fruitless years at the team.

Recently, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto spoke about Vettel trying to emulate Schumacher. The obvious question asked was why Seb failed to do so, despite all of his best efforts. According to Binotto, “I don’t think it’s an easy answer. Certainly, Ferrari in the last six years had a lot of change in the top management. Chairmans, CEO, so we had the lack of stability in terms of the company. That’s the main reason.”

What lies in the future for Sebastian Vettel?

Now that the German driver is set to leave the team, he is joining the Aston Martin team. Although his partner has yet to be decided, the general consensus is that it will most likely be Lance Stroll.

Meanwhile, Vettel’s vacant Ferrari seat will go to Carlos Sainz. Additionally, Sainz’ McLaren seat will go to Daniel Ricciardo, while Fernando Alonso takes over at Renault F1. Truthfully speaking, many though that Sebastian Vettel lost that killer instinct and hunger to win.

However, he has displayed occasional flashes of the old Sebastian Vettel. One of the biggest examples was the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix. Over there, Vettel pulled off a last gasp overtake to snatch a late podium. However, the German driver has generally been beaten by his younger and faster teammate, Charles Leclerc.

Now, the big question is, will the Aston Martin team offer Sebastian Vettel a new lease of life? Admittedly, the team is not exactly championship material just yet. However, there is scope for improvement, and Vettel’s experience and inputs could prove crucial.
