Ferrari appointed John Philip Jacob Elkann as their chairman after Sergio Marchionne in 2018. Ferrari F1 team did not perform up to the expectations in 2020. Elkann then became Ferrari’s temporary CEO after Louis Camilleri left his job, surprisingly.
In an interview, Leo Turrini pointed out an interesting fact about the Italian team’s new head. The reporter, known for his close relationship with Ferrari, stated that Elkann does not have any interest in racing and evaluated Ferrari’s significant downfall.
He said, “The current situation is the result of the mistakes Ferrari has made in the last decade. But Binotto definitely needs to do something about it. It’s absolutely not right to scapegoat Binotto, though.”
“John Elkann doesn’t like racing, and he has a right to it. If he chooses the right assistants to make up for his lack of racing passion, he can still be a good president,” he further added.

Turrini does not believe Jean Todt will become the new Ferrari head
Ferrari is going through turmoil at the moment. Ever since the 2019 technical regulations that castrated Ferrari’s power unit, the F1 team has struggled on the grid. The Maranello team scored 504 points and finished P2 in 2019. However, the team struggled significantly this season, they could only manage 131 points and finished P6 in the championship standings.
Following the 2020 season, Louis Camilleri left his position at Ferrari. The team has since been looking to make changes to improve the team’s performance. Turrini disagrees that Jean Todt will be the new Ferrari CEO.
“You should never say never, but if it happens, I would be very surprised. He worked for Ferrari for 15 years, earned everything he could earn, became a very rich man and a famous person, and he is not getting younger anymore. So why return to Italy?” he said.
The Maranello team recorded their worst performance this season since 1980. They will enter the grid with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc this season. The team will hope that the young drivers along with the management will help Ferrari climb back the championship standings.
