‘I Don’t Expect Anything Special’- Stroll Gives Honest Expectations from Sebastian Vettel

Aston Martin head into the new season full of optimism. The team were arguably the best of the rest last year. They could have clinched 3rd position in the championship were it not for a 15 point penalty for breaching sporting regulations with the design of their car.

Moreover, having signed a 4-time World Champion in Sebastian Vettel, the team is aiming for a lot more than they achieved last year.

Obviously, Vettel has been one of the biggest talking points in the world of F1 in recent times. He had a nightmare campaign in 2020 where he only managed 33 points from 17 races.

However, many hope that leaving the claustrophobic confines of Maranello would do Vettel good. Fans expect to see the German close to his peak this year.

However, his teammate Lance Stroll appears to be a cynic. Speaking about what he expects from Vettel, Stroll said (translated by Google), “He has a lot of experience and knows what a team needs to succeed, but, personally, I don’t expect anything special.”

What to expect from Sebastian Vettel in 2021 with Aston Martin?

Vettel fans may not take to kindly to Stroll’s statements. However, if one were to go by statistics and data, optimism over Vettel racing at Aston Martin would decrease.

While rumors claim that he had a different car to teammate Charles Leclerc last year, there’s only so much truth to these murmurs.

Vettel himself has admitted that he was thoroughly beaten by the Monegasque. And you have to wonder if Vettel’s best years are behind him. After all, only scoring one-third of the team’s points while struggling to get out of Q2 is definitely concerning.

Nevertheless, expect Vettel’s hard work over the off-season to shine through. What fans can expect is a significantly better Vettel than we saw last year.

But if that Vettel can beat his teammate and win podiums on a regular basis is something that’s an unknown. Don’t be too surprised if Stroll has the jump on him, at least in the first half of the season.

A good judgement can only be made once the pre-season tests commence in Bahrain (March 12th -March 14th). Do you think Vettel will be back to his blistering best this year? Leave a comment down below.
