FIA Launches Volunteers and Officials Month 2025 to Celebrate Dedicated Individuals Powering Motor Sport

FIA news

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has officially launched Volunteers and Officials Month 2025, declaring the month of October as a global celebration of the invaluable contribution volunteers and officials make to enable motor sport events around the world.

From marshals, stewards and race directors to fan engagement and event organisation, volunteers are the unsung heroes who dedicate their time at motor sport events from grassroots competitions to FIA World Championships. Volunteers and Officials Month is a tribute to their dedication, passion and commitment to the sport and builds upon FIA Volunteers Day and Weekend held in previous years.

Events and activities will take place during FIA championship events throughout the month of October as well as at national and regional level events organised by National Sporting Authorities (ASNs). With over 10 world championship events, 15 regional events and dozens of national level events across disciplines including Formula 1, Rally, Autocross, Cross Car, ecoRally, Karting and Truck Racing, October is set to showcase the wide range of competitions where volunteers and officials play a critical role in the organisation and smooth running of motor sport events.

Activities across the global FIA network will include volunteer awards to honour outstanding service and dedication, social media spotlights featuring volunteer stories and behind-the-scenes content, event activations at races and volunteer recruitment campaigns to inspire the next generation of volunteers to step forward.

As part of the FIA’s commitment to provide professional development opportunities across the motor sport community, FIA University offers comprehensive training, development and mentoring opportunities for volunteers and officials. 33,934 people have enrolled in FIA University modules, with users already completing on average over 100 minutes of learning this year through open-access modules covering key topics such as marshalling, safety, motor sport medicine, and the role of the chief safety officer.

These resources not only help ensure consistent and high safety standards across motor sport events but also provide volunteers with meaningful opportunities to enhance their expertise, broaden their skillsets and contribute to the sport’s continued success.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, said:
“Volunteers and officials are the lifeblood of our sport, ensuring its safety for everyone involved. Their passion, dedication and commitment are inspiring and allow motorsport events to take place across the world, bringing sporting joy and spectacle to millions of fans.”

“By declaring October as Volunteers and Officials Month, the FIA is expressing our sincere appreciation and commitment to all our volunteers and officials who fulfil a wide range of roles. I invite anyone interested in volunteering at a motorsport event to get involved and see how rewarding it is to play such a meaningful role at the races and events we all love to watch.”

Valerio Iachizzi, FIA Secretary General for Sport, said:
“Motorsport could not exist without the commitment of our stewards and officials. They stand trackside in every condition, making sure that safety and fairness always come first. This month is dedicated to them a reminder that every race is powered not only by drivers and machines, but also by their dedication and passion.”

Elise Racette, Chair of the FIA Volunteers and Officials Commission, said:
“The FIA is deeply committed to supporting volunteers and officials. With the creation of the Officials department the FIA will be offering continuous guidance to ASNs in key areas such as recruitment, training, accreditation, education, safety, and retention. Volunteers and Officials Month is a key opportunity to honour their invaluable contribution to motor sport and to highlight the diverse roles they play at events around the world. Their dedication and expertise are essential to the success and safety of our sport.”

Matteo Perini, FIA Sport Officials Manager, said:
“Volunteers and Officials Month is a key opportunity to recognise those who give so much to our sport. The FIA is committed, via our Officials Department, to valuing and empowering our volunteers while inspiring the next generation to get involved. We look forward to seeing ASNs around the world celebrate the passion and dedication that make motor sport possible.”

With more events and activities planned for Volunteers and Officials Month 2025 than ever before, October is set to be an inspiring celebration of the passion, dedication and contribution of volunteers across every level of motor sport.

Verstappen will stay at Red Bull unless it struggles in F1 2026 – Coulthard

Max Verstappen’s immediate Formula 1 future is locked in at Red Bull, but it is expected that the four-time champion will use the 2026 season to assess the team’s position before making a decision on his next steps.
This is the opinion of former Red Bull driver David Coulthard, who suggested Verstappen wouldn’t “jump on the next horse because your own didn’t win” unless the team proves to be in …Keep reading

“It’s not like it was a no-brainer” – why Gasly tied his F1 future to Alpine

There is a quote, popularly misattributed to Albert Einstein, that the definition of insanity is to repeat an unsuccessful course of action in the expectation of a different outcome. So you might wonder why Pierre Gasly, a Formula 1 grand prix winner who remains demonstrably competitive, would tie himself into a three-year contract extension with a team which has gone through innumerable …Keep reading

FIA Partners With Siemens To Drive Innovation, Safety and Sustainability In Racing

FIA news

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has named Siemens Digital Industries Software as its official digital twin sponsor in a new multi-year agreement that will help shape the future of motor sport.

The collaboration will see the FIA expand its use of Siemens’ Xcelerator software portfolio to drive innovation in race car design while reducing the environmental impact of developing and testing prototypes.

Siemens is the latest to join the FIA’s recently launched Global Partnership Programme, a network of leading organisations committed to advancing safety, sustainability and innovation across motor sport and mobility.

At the heart of the collaboration is the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, including the award-winning Designcenter NX software, which enables FIA engineers to create detailed digital models of race cars and simulate their performance in a virtual environment. The virtual-first approach plays a key role in shaping the technical regulations of single-seater categories, from Formula 1 to Formula 4.

By reducing the need for physical prototypes and wind tunnel testing, the FIA can lower its environmental impact and accelerate progress toward its net zero 2030 goal. Since 2022, the FIA has used Siemens’ software to generate more than 14,000 computer aided design CAD parts in over 10,000 computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations.

Beyond aerodynamics, the FIA will expand its use of Siemens’ Teamcenter® X for product lifecycle management and adopt further Simcenter® simulation tools, creating a fully integrated digital ecosystem to power future innovations across championships.

Craig Edmondson, Chief Commercial Officer, FIA, said: “We’re proud to partner with global technology leaders like Siemens to shape the future of motor sport. This collaboration shows the strength of our wider partner network, where world-class brands are helping us deliver progress across performance, safety and sustainability.”

Jason Somerville, Head of Aerodynamics, FIA, added: “Siemens gives us the precision tools to design and test complex aerodynamic concepts virtually, reducing environmental impact while improving performance and safety. This technology is key to ensuring that racing remains closer, fairer, and more competitive — all while supporting our ambition to reach net zero by 2030.”

Nand Kochhar, Vice President, Automotive and Transportation, Siemens Digital Industries Software, said: “We’re looking forward to deepening our collaboration with the FIA as their Official Digital Twin Sponsor. Siemens Xcelerator is enabling FIA engineers to design, simulate and optimise with unprecedented precision, helping deliver a more sustainable and technologically advanced future for motorsport and mobility.”
