Sergio Perez is having a dream Formula 1 season. Aside from being let go by Racing Point, of course. After grabbing his 1st podium of the season in Turkey, he took the top spot of the podium in Sakhir. And after the race, his number 1 fan, his son, congratulated him on the victory.

Movistar f1 recorded him on a video call with his son, who is his namesake, in the post-race interviews. “Checo, did you see dad? Yes? Did you see him? Who won?”– asked the race-winner from his son.
“Dad!”– in came the elated reply from Sergio Perez Junior. “Yes! I love you, big boy.”– the Mexican joyfully told his son.

How can one not feel good for the Mexican? After a collision with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc on the opening lap, he was looking out of contention not only for a podium but also for points. To go from last in the 1st lap to 1st in the last lap is a truly astonishing achievement, even if it was courtesy of some good luck.

And even though Mercedes has been continuing on their dominant path, this season has been one of the more interesting ones. After Pierre Gasly‘s shocking win at Monza, the Mexican has served us with another surprise. Not just his maiden F1 win but also 1st at Sakhir GP. Since this outer track of Bahrain was only an experiment, he could be the only driver to win in the circuit’s history.

Should Red Bull now sign Sergio Perez?

He is making an exceptional case to drive next to Max Verstappen for the 2021 F1 season. Thai driver Alex Albon looks set to lose his seat. And according to his current Team boss Lawrence Stroll, he should be the one replacing him –

“Checo has been a fantastic asset, and he’s been an asset for this team a long time before I’ve arrived. He most definitely proves every weekend that he deserves to be in a car next year. And I hope he’s in that Red Bull (car) next year.”

The former Sauber driver is too good to be without a drive for next season. Giving him the Red Bull drive will mean that he can compete for podiums and race victories even more regularly. It will be the right culmination of the driver’s racing career.
