The name ‘Schumacher’ is just months away from returning to the Formula 1 grid. Only this time, it isn’t Michael Schumacher, but his son, Mick Schumacher. During a podcast, Former Ferrari chief, and a friend of Michael, Ross Brawn, opened up that he is eagerly waiting for Mick’s first F1 season to commence.
However, apparently, the return of Schumacher also dragged Brawn down an emotional memory lane to his years with the 7-time world champion.
What did Brawn say?
During the F1 Nation podcast, Alex Jacques asked Brawn about how emotional he was looking at the name Schumacher back on the timesheet again.
“Very much. I think it just reminds us of the tragedy of Michael’s accident. Because how wonderful it would have been if Michael was able to participate in that,” he replied.
“None of us know how much Michael is able to understand. But if he had been part of that, and let’s pray and hope that one day he might, because that would be very, very special.”
The news of Michael’s accident was a rather painful one, considering the German has always been a part of the Formula 1 family.
Brawn, in particular, has been one of Michael’s closest friends, as the two worked together in Ferrari during the late 90s and early 2000s. Hence, the German’s accident may have caused a bit more pain to Brawn.
Brawn hoping Mick can succeed as well as Michael Schumacher
A lot of expectations are piling up over Mick since Haas F1 signed the young German for 2021. Furthermore, the fact that he has ended up in the place where his father left off could bring back a lot of emotions.
Hence, the entire F1 community will be wishing to see Mick filling in his father’s big shoes, and raising the domination of Schumacher again.
“Mick’s doing an amazing job under the circumstances with that famous name. [It] opens doors. But it brings a lot of weight with it as well,” Brawn said.
“So, the whole family is a great family and a lovely family. I really hope that Mick can succeed.”
Mick, in general, has lived up to his hype so far, considering he recently won the Formula 2 world championship title, which consequently opened the doorway to F1.
Although it is unlikely that he could show his true pace in Haas, he could eventually become a part of Scuderia Ferrari just like his father. However, can he prove his worth in the sport amid massive expectations? And if he does, will Michael return to normalcy and enjoy his son racing in Formula 1?
