Ferrari are in dire straits. The team knows that SF1000s needs severe modifications. The faults in the car had cost them valuable points this year. The result, the Italians finish sixth in the Constructor’s championship. Well, they are thinking of solutions, but time is not on their side.

On the brighter side of things, Mick Schumacher, the F2 champion, recently signed his F1 season of 2021 with Haas. Ferrari Driver’s Academy had hinted at both its drivers, Mick and Callum, securing a seat in F1 2021. However, the narrative turned out to be different.

Nonetheless, Callum Ilott had also made an impact with his F2 season. Placing P2 on the driver’s championship, he deserved a reward. Well, Ferrari did not disappoint him. Although they could not manage a cockpit for him, they signed him as a test driver for Ferrari F1. Quite a place to learn for the Briton.

Test drivers are an essential part of the team. They test the cars and their alteration and provide the first feedback to the engineers. Therefore, they form the basis on which the car is modified further. It may sound boring to many, but it thrills Callum to be the same.

I am very pleased to be joining Scuderia Ferrari as its test driver from next year. I look forward to contributing to the work the team does on and off track, and to all of the new things I can learn by taking on this exciting new challenge,” concluded Ilott.

Ilott to make the most of his opportunity at Ferrari

Callum Ilott states that he ‘will give my all to do a good job and gain as much experience as possible to continue making progress as a driver.‘ Well, with all that promise and optimism, Ferrari might as well have gained a gem.

Callum raced for UNI-Virtuosi in F2. Although his stint was exciting, a few wrong turns and unfortunate contacts saw the Briton fall behind Mick. However, P2 in the F2 championship is not bad, and Callum Ilott believes the same. That position is promising enough to promote the racer to the next level.

I only missed out [on the title] by 14 points. I could always give reasons why, but I don’t want to give excuses. I feel like if you are in the top three or top two, you shouldn’t have to prove yourself again,” highlighted Ilott.

Well, now that he is into Ferrari, the stairs will only take him up. His compatriots are doing wonderful things in F1. He would want to follow suit as soon as possible. He thanked Ferrari for this opportunity and for their constant support. Well, we have always loved humble English lads filling up the ranks in F1. Likewise, Britain will have high hopes from him as well.
