“No reason to panic” over Alfa missing its 2023 F1 targets, says Bottas

The Hinwil outfit currently lies eighth in the constructors’ championship, with Bottas only logging points when he finished eighth in the opening race in Bahrain.
Bottas admits he has re-evaluated his goals for this season, and switched his focus from achieving specific results to helping the team make progress in what he says is a “challenging” year.
“[We’re] definitely we’re not …Keep reading

Sport news

The venue is to be set by the city of Elbasan, roughly 40 kilometres from Albania’s capital city, Tirana, and 75km from the second biggest city in the country, Durrës.

Local authorities were represented by Auto Club Albania President Niko Leka, Mayor of Elbasan Municipality, Gledian Llatja, and Director of General Directorate of Road Transport Service Blendi Gonxhja.

The circuit was designed by Test & Training International, a vastly experienced company founded by former Formula 1 driver and two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, Alexander Wurz, who was also on site and presented a design study, outlining an overview of the project, including buildings and architecture and zoning analysis.

The project also takes environmental measures into account as well as the potential economic and social impact of the circuit on local communities.

The initial target for the circuit is to obtain Grade 3 of FIA Circuit License, allowing racing with cars of power to weight ratio of 2-3kg/bhp and therefore open to classes such as Formula 3, Formula 4, TCR and GT3.

Aside from hosting motor sport events, the objective of the circuit is also to enhance the growth of motor sport culture in the country as well as neighbouring Balkan countries and to serve as a facility for fleet driver training, also for services such as police and ambulance drivers.

The objective is to complete the circuit in three years’ time.

McLaren: Lack of works engine in 2026 not a handicap

With Honda now confirmed at Aston Martin, seven teams either have an internal supply or a works partner, counting both RBR and AlphaTauri as recipients of the Ford-backed unit being developed by Red Bull Powertrains. There are no works deals left for McLaren, Williams or Haas to take.
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack cautioned recently that a works partner would be crucial in 2026 as the …Keep reading

Mercedes F1 aerodynamicists analysing “nice clutch” of Red Bull floor images

The Monte Carlo weekend proved to be an eye-opener for teams as the often well-hidden underside of some of the top contenders – including the Red Bull and Mercedes – were shown off as cars were retrieved on cranes.
Lewis Hamilton’s crash in final practice at Mirabeau and Sergio Perez’s accident in qualifying at Ste. Devote both required their car to be lifted high off the track, revealing …Keep reading

Ferrari “pushing like hell” to address ‘unhappiness’ with F1 form

Last year’s runner-up to Red Bull has now slipped behind Aston Martin and Mercedes to fourth in the constructors’ championship ahead of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.
Unlike rivals who chose to bring major upgrade packages anyway to the unrepresentative Monaco lap following the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna GP, Ferrari instead opted to hold off its bodywork upgrades scheduled for …Keep reading

F1 teams set to trial new Pirelli tyre in Barcelona

The new tyres are a response by Pirelli to increasing downforce levels and cornering loads, and represent a fast-tracking of a construction that was originally intended for 2024.
Some teams have already tried the new spec in “blind” 2024 testing, but Barcelona will be an opportunity for everyone to run the definitive versions, with each driver getting two extra sets of C1 tyres to be used …Keep reading

McLaren sets launch target for “noticeably different” F1 car upgrade

When it was clear McLaren had missed its targets for the start of the season, it decided to roll out a three-pronged upgrade plan to get the MCL60 to the level the team believes it should be, having debuted a draggy specification in Bahrain.
The first package of updates was launched in Baku, and while the team was satisfied it produced the expected results and correlated well with its wind …Keep reading

Red Bull: Mid-season aero reduction might impact Aston Martin’s F1 2023 bid

In the hands of Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin has been the surprise package of the 2023 F1 season, with Alonso sitting third in the standings behind Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.
The two-time world champion also kept Aston Martin one point ahead of Mercedes in the constructors’ championship with five podiums in sixth races.
Last weekend, only a stunning final sector allowed Verstappen to …Keep reading

Wolff: Aston Martin’s Honda F1 switch does not show Mercedes engine has declined

The Silverstone squad – through its Force India, Racing Point and now Aston Martin guises – has used Mercedes power since 2009 to score one win, 14 podiums and two pole positions.
Aston Martin’s coming switch to Honda marks the first time a customer has broken ties with Mercedes since 2014.
But this decision is due to the benefits that a works deal gives Aston Martin, rather than any …Keep reading
