The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has announced that the 2025 FIA Karting World Championship will be supported by an Esports event organised by the Swedish ASN. The initiative aims to showcase the diverse grassroots pathways available for participation in motor sport.

Since the World Motor Sport Council validated the addition of Esports into the FIA International Sporting Code in 2023, recognising it as an official discipline of motor sport, the FIA has hosted major international events including the FIA Motorsport Games Esports Cup.

Esports offers a unique opportunity to engage with new communities across the world and the combined Esports and Karting event at the FIA Karting World Championship forms part of the FIA’s mission to create new pathways from the screen to the track.

Vincent Caro, FIA Head of Circuit Grassroots Disciplines & Activities, said:
“Bringing together Karting and Esports at the 2025 FIA Karting World Championship underscores the FIA’s commitment to grassroots investment and expanding the ways people can engage with motor sport. All the equipment that the SBF will set up for the competition between senior karting drivers will remain in place throughout the weekend of the event, so that all visitors and spectators tempted by an Esports experience can try out the simulators for free.
 
“This activation also makes the experience of visiting an FIA event even more attractive to the public. Accessibility is central to the FIA’s Global Karting Plan and this initiative is a major step toward growing participation and opening new entry points into the sport.”

Jessica Bjurström, Chair of Svenska Bilsportförbundet, said:
“We’re really excited to be able to host an Esports competition when the FIA Karting World Championship comes to Kristianstad in September. Esports is a growing discipline and this a great opportunity for more people to get involved with the thrills of motor sport whether on-track or on-screen.”

The event will be held at the Åsum Ring, Kristianstad and will utilise 12 racing sims to stage a dynamic racing competition during the championship weekend. An FIA-recognised event, the competition is registered on the International Sporting Calendar and will be officiated by a group of international stewards, appointed by the ASN.

Entries are open for any individual aged 14+ who holds an International Licence. The virtual competition will use the iRacing title and, in line with the ambitions of most young karting drivers, the FIA F4 category has been chosen for the competition.

The 2025 FIA Karting World Championship will be held in Kristianstad, Sweden over 11-14 September and will crown champions in the OK-Junior (12-14 years old) and OK (14+) categories. FIA Karting events are free to watch on YouTube on the FIA Karting Championship channel, available here.

At the 2025 DTM weekend at the Nürburgring, 23 girls took part in the “Discover Motorsport – Young Women’s Edition,” gaining first-hand experience across key areas of the sport – from race control to sitting in a DTM cockpit.

Organised by the Deutscher Motor Sport Bund (DMSB) and its youth organisation dmsj, the event welcomed more than double the number of participants compared with last year’s Girls’Day, underlining the strong interest in motorsport among young women. Students from four different grades were given exclusive access behind the scenes of the DTM weekend, with a programme designed to showcase the wide variety of roles and career pathways within the sport.

The agenda included visits to race control, Swiss Timing’s timekeeping, DEKRA’s scrutineering, and a racing team garage, along with an introduction to the structure of motorsport in Germany and the responsibilities of officials such as track marshals and stewards. DMSB ambassador Lina van de Mars supported the activities, encouraging participants to ask questions and explore opportunities.

A highlight of the day was the visit to Paul Motorsport, where DTM driver Maximilian Paul presented his car and gave each participant the chance to sit in the cockpit. With track action from the support series running in parallel, the group also experienced motorsport competition up close.

Thanks to the support of AVL RACETECH, which provided lunch for the participants, the event concluded successfully in sunny conditions.

The “Discover Motorsport” programme continues to expand as part of dmsj’s youth development efforts, with further editions planned for 2026 following this year’s successful “Student’s Edition” at the SuperMoto IDM in Sankt Wendel and the Young Women’s Edition at the Nürburgring.
