Case ICA-2025-03 – Appeal lodged on behalf of Mr Luka Scelles against Decisions No. 211 and No.214 dated 7 June 2025 of the Stewards of the event of Viterbo (Italy), counting towards the 2025 OK-Junior European Championship Mondokart.com

On 7 June 2025, during the Viterbo round of the 2025 FIA Karting European Championship – OK Junior, Driver No. 218, Luka Scelles, was involved in on-track incident with Driver No. 246, Emiliano Hernández. Stewards issued Decisions No. 211 (disqualification of Driver No. 218 from the session and removal of two points on his Digital Licence) and No. 214 (suspension of Decision No. 211), finding that Driver No. 218 had caused a collision that forced Driver No. 246 to retire from the session.

On 11 June 2025, the Appellant lodged an appeal against the Stewards’ Decisions before the ICA.

On 8 June 2025, on the first lap of the Super Heat A of the FIA Karting European Championship – OK Junior in Viterbo, a contact occurred between Driver No. 202, Noah Baglin (Prema Racing) and Driver No. 203, Bosco Arias (Ricky Flynn Motorsport). Both drivers were forced off track following wheel-to-wheel contact in the approach to Turn 1, an incident which was deemed a typical racing occurrence and not reported to the Stewards.

Upon exiting his kart, Driver No. 202 reacted by first clapping his hands in the direction of Driver No. 203, then he raised his middle finger up in the air. The Stewards subsequently decided to disqualify Driver No. 202 and remove five points on his Digital Licence, finding that his behaviour [“Unsportsmanlike manner towards another driver” (“obscene hand signals”)] constituted a misconduct under Article 12.2.1.l of the FIA International Sporting Code.

On 12 June 2025, the Appellant lodged an appeal against the Stewards’ Decision before the ICA.

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motorsport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has welcomed ethical data science expert Signify Group as a signatory to the United Against Online Abuse Charter.

During the second annual United Against Online Abuse conference in Stockholm, Signify became a key member of the global coalition of over 70 partners against online abuse, committed to the shared principles of collaboration, transparency, and responsibility in addressing the threat.

Signify’s Threat Matrix service is a world leader in protecting athletes and individuals from online abuse, using AI and open-source data to detect, monitor, and analyse the threat with their proprietary technology. Working with major sports organisations the service has covered the very biggest international sporting events and global tours including Football World Cups, Olympic Games, Athletics World Championships, Rugby World Cups and US College Championships. Signify’s work across Global Tennis (where they support the International Tour’s WTA and ITF, as well as Grand Slam events including the US Open and the Championships, Wimbledon), has illuminated issues around fixated threat and gambling. Their support of Match Officials for World Rugby has also set new standards in protection from online abuse, including groundbreaking action such as arrests and criminal prosecutions around the world. The company not only helps these organisations better understand the problem of online abuse, but also supports real-world steps to protect their athletes, players and officials. This includes providing comprehensive information on abusive accounts to pass to platforms, assembling evidence packages for review with law enforcement, and providing data-driven insights to governments to inform legislation such as the UK’s Online Safety Act.

By championing collaboration, UAOA aims to be a world leader in the research of online abuse and the production of solution-oriented responses to the epidemic of online abuse. Signify is another key partner in the coalition’s efforts to educate on the use of AI for detecting and monitoring online abuse, and to raise awareness of response mechanisms against perpetrators.
