The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has today confirmed the venue for the 2026 FIA Awards as the West Bund International Convention Center in Shanghai, China. This state-of-the-art venue was completed in 2025 and will host the champions and personalities from the motor sport world for a night of celebration on Saturday 12 December. The FIA Awards is where Champions are Crowned.
The diamond-like design of the convention centre shines brightly alongside the Huangpu River in Shanghai’s West Bund – it is as cutting edge as the technology and innovation at the heart of the FIA’s six World Championships and the ideal location to celebrate the year’s highest achieving motor sport athletes and teams.
Confirmation that the West Bund International Convention Center will host the event comes as the eyes of the motor sport world turn once again to Shanghai and its International Circuit, which is preparing to host the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The electric single-seaters return to this impressive venue for a double-header of races this weekend, marking the second FIA World Championship race of the 2026 season in the city after the FIA Formula One World Championship visited in March.
The upcoming two Shanghai E-Prix come hot off the heels of another Formula E race on Chinese soil just two weeks ago, with the return of the Sanya E-Prix on the island of Hainan seeing Jake Dennis emerge to take his second win of the season.
Since its very first race that took place in Beijing in 2014, the championship has had strong ties to China, with Chinese manufacturers, teams, drivers and memorable moments forming an important part of the all-electric single-seater series’ history – and future.
This year’s FIA Awards will welcome the 2025-26 ABB FIA Formula E World Champions as the final winners of the GEN3 era, celebrating a hard-fought season that looks set to go down to the wire yet again. With six races left to run, the title fight remains wide open, and while it’s advantage Mitch Evans at the top of the standings for now, it won’t be certain which drivers will make the return trip to Shanghai in December until the final chequered flag of the campaign falls in London in mid-August.

The Formula E champions will undoubtedly also have one eye on the season-opening race of the GEN4 era taking place just one week after the FIA Awards in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
As a major hub for motor sport in the Asia-Pacific region, China will play host to more top-level motor sport events between now and the end of the year, including of the FIA EcoRally Cup, two rounds of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour in Chengdu and Zhouzhou and the 73rd running of the Macau Grand Prix.
The top finishers from these categories will all receive their trophies at the spectacular West Bund International Convention Center, where they will be joined by racing and rally legends, outstanding officials and representatives from across the world of motor sport.
FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director, Marek Nawarecki, said: “China has been a significant contributor to the rapid growth and success of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship since its inception 12 years ago, and for the 2025-26 season returning to Sanya and then coming to Shanghai reflects that the championship is stronger than ever here.
“The Shanghai International Circuit has produced some of the best races of the past three years since it joined the calendar, and I am sure the World Champions will be delighted to return here for the FIA Awards. The West Bund International Convention Center looks like a really incredible facility – as innovative as the Formula E cars that will be racing in Shanghai this coming weekend!”
